MPI Accredited Person Training
At the front line of the Biosecurity chain, keeping New Zealand free from unwanted pests and diseases, are trained Accredited Persons (APs). APs are responsible for checking and managing contamination risks associated with imported sea containers. All Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI - formerly MAF) approved transitional facilities for sea containers must have access to one or more APs. Having their own staff as APs helps businesses avoid delays or extra charges when clearing goods.
Description
To gain accreditation, candidates must undertake and pass an MPI approved training course. IVS is an approved provider, certifying APs through an enjoyable half day training course, which focuses on;
- Procedures for unpacking sea containers and the necessary checks required
- How to approach sea container checks and complete the necessary documentation for reporting
- Contingency procedures in the event of finding contamination
- Updates to MPI Standards, regulations and checking/reporting procedures
The Certificate of Appointment of Approval as an Accredited Person is valid for 2 years before refresher training is required. Holding a valid certificate allows the AP to perform Biosecurity checks on sea containers and complete documentation at any approved transitional facility in New Zealand.
Please note an AP applicant must have a current working visa if they are not a New Zealand citizen or resident.
Course discounts apply if your business is a member of the IVS Biosecurity Support Programme (BSP).
Prerequisites
- Each participant is required to bring photographic identification (e.g. a passport or driver's licence or 18+ Card) for proof of ID.
- Please arrive before or at the course time for a prompt start - late arrivals after the course time will be unable to attend on the day and required to re book at a later date
- No pre-course study is required, participants will receive an Accredited Persons Resource on the day.
- For participants undergoing refresher training, please provide your existing AP number when booking, or bring with you to the course.
- After successful completion of this course, participants will receive an IVS Training Certificate. This will then need to be sent to MPI to receive the official appointment of approval certificate.
- An applicant must have a current working visa if they are not a New Zealand citizen or resident.
- Please note: If English is not the participant's first language, a basic understanding of written or oral English is required. This will help with participation during the course, and sitting the assessment at the end. If your organisation has any concerns about this, please contact IVS to discuss alternative options.
- Catering (coffee & tea upon arrival, morning or afternoon tea) is provided on the day.
